The latest meeting of the Economic Advisory Board (EAB), part of the governance structure for the Swindon and Wiltshire Business Growth Unit, took place on 26 November 2024 at County Hall in Trowbridge. One highlight of the meeting was the announcement of Alison North's appointment as Deputy Chair.

Alison, the Founder of AN Information Ltd, brings extensive expertise in business leadership and information governance, and her appointment was welcomed by members of the Board. In her address to the Board, Alison outlined her commitment to fostering collaboration and supporting initiatives that deliver tangible benefits for local businesses and communities. Councillor Richard Clewer, Co-Chair of the Board, praised Alison’s dedication to supporting the economic growth of Swindon and Wiltshire over the years.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for members to discuss the Autumn Budget announcements and the Government’s evolving approach to regional economic development.  Another point of discussion was addressing the skills gap affecting local businesses. Board members shared insights into how workforce challenges are impacting industries across the area. The meeting highlighted the need for continued collaboration with education providers and training organisations to equip residents with the skills required to thrive in a changing economic landscape.

As the meeting concluded, Co-Chair Councillor Jim Robbins reflected on the importance of proactive leadership and partnership in tackling the region’s economic priorities. He thanked all members for their contributions and reiterated the Board’s commitment to supporting businesses, fostering innovation, and driving inclusive growth.
