Skills and Talent

The development of Skills and Talent is our top priority and fundamental to the long term sustainable and inclusive economic growth of Swindon and Wiltshire.

SWLEP’s Local Industrial Strategy sets out how we will achieve this over the next 10 years and our skills aspirations are presented in the ‘People’ chapter.  In July 2020, we published the Swindon and Wiltshire’s Skills Plan which presents our route map for the next 5 years. This has been developed from extensive analysis (summary can be found here) of local skills supply and demand. As part of our COVID-19 response, we also produce monthly labour market analysis (please scroll down to view the list of documents) and have finalised our first Local Skills Report, with the accompanying annexes (Local Skills Report – Annex A and Local Skills Report – Annex B), in March 2021.

Through the Skills and Talent Subgroup, SWLEP works in partnership with Swindon Borough Council, Wiltshire Council, DfE, BEIS, MHCLG, Higher and Further Education providers, including our colleges and the emerging Institute of Technology (IOT), local businesses and training providers to address local education, employment and skills issues.  In doing so, the Skills and Talent Subgroup provides strategic direction and mobilises all of the available skills resources, including the Growth Hub, the Careers Hub and European Social Fund (ESF), the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Department for Education (DfE) and other support programmes.
